Selketheria Eisseldon

Selketheria of House Eisseldon was born approximately four hundred years ago, daughter of Duke Verfthien Albier Eisseldon II and Duchess Thinasi Rufina of House Eisseldon. Though the thirdborn and only female of Verfthien and Thinasi, she remains one of the most influential members in the history of the House, and of Fidira as a whole.

Selketheria distinguished herself in her adolescence through her ability to use magic, and her intuitive ability to understand and explain the natural systems that underpin arcane phenomena. Intellect is characteristic of Eisseldon blood, but this is often accompanied by an aloofness of magnitude equal to intellect. Not so in the case of Selketheria, she was beloved by servants and the public. This affection cushioned the effects of the scandal that surrounded her in her late teens to her early thirties.

Modern Fidira's views on love are relatively liberal. This was not always the case, especially so among the aristocracy where blood, breeding and misogyny are central. Selketheria avoided the romantic company of men as much as she could. Her parents attempted, of course, to match-make; a practice still common among the powerbroking elite; and though Selketheria was lovely and lively, she never found her match among the gentlemen her parents paired her with. This was due to a sexual orientation that was revealed through dramatic accident at an Eisseldon-organised ball. The ensuing scandal damaged her and her family's reputation and power among the elite, but the affection held for Selketheria among her family and the commonfolk ensured Selketheria's safety in a situation that other nobles had been executed -- publicly or stealthily. Selketheria came to spearhead a movement that resulted in a greater social acceptance of homosexuality. No longer was it considered an affliction or oddity. Homosexual marriages became legally recognised by the Fidiran crown due to this movement, though there is still rather conspicuous contempt toward homosexuality in some parts of the aristocratic establishment.
