Unused and forgotten, the Golden Gateway has fallen into ruin.
On the northern edges of the Endless Steppe far to the east of the Realms of Man lies the Golden Dome. The Dome towers over the wastelands and dry grasses, reaching into the sky in a place devoid of any sign of civilization. In the winter, beasts and monsters roam across land surrounding the dome, taking refuge from the harsh snows further north. During the summers, the land is dry and barren and the land is mostly devoid of life, except a few lizards, snakes and insects.
Kasolar
Long ago, when fully activated, the dome would form a powerful teleportation link with the tied subterranean realm of Kasolar and the corresponding Silver Dome on the other side. With the proper words, techniques and mastery of the old sciences of the Tyran, the link was used regularly by the Tyran race in order to visit the research stations set up far below. The link can still be used today, but requires knowledge that has been lost to the world for millions of years. In stark contrast to the wastelands surrounding the Golden Dome, far below, the deep realm of Kasolar is still a vibrant and lush land of overwhelming diversity and life. The towering rainforests and jungles are still being powered by an ever burning power source of miraculous origin and the Silver Dome is maintained and cared for by masked servants of the Tyran that still await the return of their long extinct masters.
Architecture
The rock that makes up the base of the Golden Dome is harder than diamond, infused with magic and granted a strength that gives the Dome it's great longevity. Despite the passing of millions of years only the thin golden sheets of the same material have begun to break down and collapse into the structure itself. Within the Dome the mechanical parts and technology that powers the link is still very much intact and is mostly hidden away within the walls and below ground, sealed away from any kind of interference.
History
Humans have rarely come across the dome, only the nomads of the endless steppe, the people known as the Vateri have encountered the structure and find the hum of magical energy that still surrounds the stones disturbing.
