Old Sternean

Old Sternean is the style of building found throughout Wolfsbrunn and allegedly originated from the region of Sternes. Historians have disputed this claim with instances of the style in Altenport and Rornach which would predate the construction of settlements in Sternes. The counterargument to this is that the first instances of the style are found in Gnome and Halfling homesteads and farms that were built long before Humans founded villages and cities.

Timber and Loam

The Old Sternean style of builiding consists mainly of timber and loam for the main structure. Dyes and pigments are sometimes added to the loam to personalize the building further. Buildings have a footprint that consists of one or multiple square or rectangular shapes, they typically have straight angles apart from the diagonal crossbeams that support the structure and the roof. Most buildings in this style are only one story high, but within villages or cities, buildings can be found that are two or even three stories high.

Design and Ornaments

Windowsills, shutters and doors for buildings in this style are made of whateverwood there is available within the region and are simplistic in design, sometimes painted in a neutral color or stained in a dark tone. The choice of colors of this style varies from region to region. Old Sternean houses usually have a hip or a gable roof made of a wooden structure which is covered in straw. Old Sternean architecture is not particularly ornamental, but in some places, a symbol of the religious beliefs of the occupants of the building is placed on the facade of the building This is usually done as high as possible in the point under the roof. These ornaments can be an object that is attached to the facade but more commonly they are carved from the loam itself and painted or gilded to make them more prominent.
