Valdian Pumpernickel

Valdian Pumpernickel is a common type of bread in the west of Esca, especially in the region of Wolfsbrunn. It is made from Westvaldian rye, water, yeast, vegetable oil and a pinch of sugar and salt. Some bakers use bell sugar for their recipes, which gives the bread a slightly orange hue.
  Regular valdian pumpernickel is popular amongst commoners because it is cheap and provides a lot of sustenance. The upper class enjoys the bread as well, although they prefer the kind made with bell sugar. In these high society circles the bread is often topped with fine cuts of meat or smoked salmon garnished with fresh herbs. Flavor combinations and the way this bread is eaten may differ depending on the region, but the taste of Valdian pumpernickel is appreciated by many.
