Maximillion "Million" Green

Maximillion "Million" Green was born in Arequipa, Peru, ICC in 289 GE, at the height of Project Yacatecuhtli. He is known for convincing Tianli Andrade to embark on one last expedition in pursuit of new intelligent aliens.

Family and Early Life

Both of Million’s parents were born poor in the unorganized northern American territory in the 230’s GE. They met and married eachother in 255 GE, and that same year they fled the region southward and requested political safe harbor in Cruz. They changed their last names Green, one of the "generic" last names customarily used to symbolize giving up all connections to their heritage and roots, and settled in Arequipa, Peru. They were intent on establishing themselves as good friends, good neighbors, and good citizens in their new chosen home. They tried to avoid the embarassment of discussing their origins at all costs, and for the most part they had no problem succeeding. They were both smart, and made themselves successful (and wealthy) fairly quickly in their new environment. Finally they felt established enough to have a child, and in the year 289 GE Maximillion Green was born.   Maximillion Green was raised in a very comfortable, very careful environment. Being the only child of immigrants, he was constantly being reminded of the dangers of standing out, drawing attention, or being disagreeable in any way. After Ciclo Diversificado Científico-Humanista (academic secondary education) he struggled to convince his parents to allow him to leave home to attend a university, despite having excelled academically and being recruited by a number of programs due to his performance. He eventually agreed to go to Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredi in Ciudad de Los Reyes, which was approved by his parents because it was not very far away from Arequipa.

Education and Internship

Maximillion Green enrolled in Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredi in Ciudad de Los Reyes in the year 306 GE (age 17). While at university, he chose the nickname "Million" as his preferred abbreviation of his full name. He completed all of the requirements for graduation in the year 309 GE (age 20). Dr. Tianli Andrade recruited Million, reaching out to him individually and asking him to apply to Dr. Andrade's Intersteller Exploration and Research team. Against the advice of his friends (who thought he should travel somewhere different to get new experiences) but to the delight of his parents, Million accepted the deal.   It quickly became clear that Dr. Andrade was getting very close to retirement. In Million's second year in the program (310 GE), two other graduate students completed their degrees leaving Million as the only graduate student left on Tianli's "research team"—Dr. Andrade even confided in Million that he planned to retire after Million graduated. Million did not mind: the opportunity to work with the legendary "father of Xenology" was a reward in itself. In some ways it even motivated Million, who would enjoy nothing more than to give the old man one more "win" in the form of an invention or important discovery before he retired.   One evening, while working late and thinking creatively, Million thought to himself: instead of only looking for technology on planets that have signs of life, what if we broaden the search? What if we look for signs of technology on planets that do not have signs of life as well?   He immediate wrote the code to search the extensive planetary database, and a singular planet showed up in the results: Kepler-70c, the second planet in the Kelper-70 system in the constellation of Cygnus. It had been overlooked by all previous searches because it had been assessed as having a 13% probability of organic life, far below the cutoff point for research interest. However, the Keji Scoring Protocol produced a stunning 78% probability of technological civilization.   Dr. Andrade was initially skeptical when Million presented his proposal for an expedition to Kepler-70c. Unlike Million Green, Andrade was old enough to remember the Erlang tragedy, which most people understood to have been the result of a "false positive" of the Keji Scoring Protocol. On the other hand, what if it really was something? Dr. Andrade had spent his entire life being self-conscious about his entire career resting on a discovery that he only participated in as a research assistant when he was 22 years old. He very much wanted to have something more to his name before he retired. In the end, it did not take that much effort for Million to convince Dr. Andrade to push for one last expedition.
