Curse: Saint-James' Lament

CW: Gross, cruel and unusual pain.

The Curse

None know where the expression came from, but from the 11th century onwards, manifestation of this particular ailment was known as Saint-Jacques' lament.
— Musings on the cruelty of existence. Abbé René-Thierry de la Palissade, Éditions de la conscience active, 2022,
Laura Palliser shuddered, she was not naturally squeamish, but this particular curse... Being lapidated was bad enough... But this... The pain...   She had to compose herself, surely the pain would drive anyone mad, she could barely hold her breakfast, just thinking about it.   She decided to take a break, and come back to her reading later.

The Curse

So it was said that for whoever was cursed with "Les Lamentations de Saint-Jacques" would be bombarded by stones, without an apparent source, unto apparent death, with the last, fatal stone embedding itself into the victim. But once that result occured, the victim would start to heal again, around that stone, among other things. And when fully healed, the stone would fly out, at great speed, piercing the organs on its way out. Then, flying to some distance away, it would gather a swarm of like-sized stones, and repeat the process.

There is no documented way to stop the curse, but the leading theory is to remove the stone before the healing can complete.
