Villas of Orladen
Purpose / Function
The Villas of Orladen were originally built to house Lemerian lords during the Silver Age of Peace. It was a time of great wealth and prosperity for the southern Lemerian nobles, and all across the region great lords rose villas and manses. They displayed great wealth and their daring arrogance, as most of these villas were not walled, simply gated with artisan stone and wrought iron.
Design
On average, the villas of Orladen have five to seven rooms, exluding the kitchens, servant quarters, bath house, ballroom, and library.
Entries
Typically, there are three to five entries and exits to every villa. The first, of course, being the memorable front doors, in which colored glass murals are inlaid. The doors themselves typically stand twelve feet in height and span nearly eight feet across. The servant quarters have entry to the back gardens nearest the bathhouse, whereas the lords and ladies of the house enjoy two separate exits: a scenic route, which branches off to several different locations and a straight path to bathhouse, which usually takes form in an elevated pathway.
Throughout the villa itself, ornate doors and arches are seen, as well as balconies and great colored-glass windows.
After the Silver Peace was shattered, gatehouses became the norm for entry upon the villa itself.
Special Properties
In modern times, the Villas of Orladen have been wired with runework to ensure general lighting, warmth during Freore's Ballad, cool-boxes to keep food fresh, and gravity-fed pipes for water in the kitchens.
In the bathhouses, runework has been carved into the stone pools to ensure every bath is the perfect temperature.
Alterations
When the Silver Age of Peace was shattered, most of the great lords hurriedly raised walls, gates, towers and barracks for their soldiers.
Architecture
Most of the villas are made of white-washed quarried stone. Large gardens adorn the lawns leading up to the granduer doors of the villas, as well as surrounding the typical bathing house that was erected on nearly every manse in this time period. Orante and grandeur arches can be seen throughout halls and passageways, and roofs are often vaulted and painted, though the colors varied between households.
