Ash II: Azluun
The errant sun grew larger as she carefully trekked forward. With each step, the blazing giant attempted to find weaknesses in her protection, gaps in the sewing of her clothes, places where her sleeves or mask were pulled back just enough to expose some of her turquoise skin. Its efforts proved fruitful, and its harsh rays stained her flesh purple wherever they touched. The scars would make for a fun story, when she got home. If she got home.
Why was she doing this to herself? This was a question Azluun wondered every time she wandered. When she was home, safe and secure— she was restless. Unable to think of anything but her next adventure. There were records to be broken, places to explore, and challenges to overcome. She stopped to wipe the sweat from her brow, only to remember it was still covered by her mask. She sighed, and let the sweat drip over her eyes, clouding the lenses that protected her from the wind-blown ash that threw itself against her with more and more force as she stepped ever closer to the wasteland's center.
Just take another step forward. She thought to herself, as every step became harder and harder to take. It was little wonder why no one had ever made it to the center of the ashlands. She grit her teeth and kept going. I will be the first. She thought. Me. That was the answer— she kept doing this to herself simply to prove that she could. She didn't need any other reason, it was just about surmounting the challenge. She looked up, squinting as the white-hot sun stared back.
She quickly looked down, closing her eyes for a moment to readjust. She'd have to focus on the ground for this next bit, otherwise she'd be liable to go blind— and Rishj wouldn't let her hear the end of it. She smiled at the thought, thinking of her put some extra energy into her step. No matter how far she wandered, she would always be just as excited to return home. She would make it back, and she wouldn't let a little fire and ash stop her.
