Lord Regent/Commandant Regent

It is not often I have the chance to write about such a preculiar political scene as that of the twin kingdoms, Ruben and Lazuli. Named after the fallen King and Queen of Dalreme who perished in the Night of Falling Crowns, these two kingdoms went to war with each other over the matter of sucession. Any layperson will know that two members of the court appeared from the smoking ruins of the castle carrying a newborn they claimed to be the heir. What they may not know is what became of these two members, and how they have shaped their kingdoms over the last twenty years.   ~A Historian
The title of 'Regent' can be equally applied to both Alfonso Blackwood, the regent of Ruben, and Fandaniel Fitzroy, Regent of Lazuli, although the particular honorific each has appropriated differs. Both titles also carry remarkably similar responsibilties, powers, and duties, although this may be due to secretive interference from what else remained of the royal court to ensure that both kingdoms would survive the intervening years.

Duties

The duty of the Regent is to oversee and guide their respective Kingdom until the heir is of age to take the throne. What 'age' this is has changed a few times over the years, most recently to the age of twenty-one. Why this is has become the topic of much speculation as both heirs near their age of maturity.

If I didn't know to say better out loud, I'd say the Lordship didn't want to give up the throne. I'm sure it's become a rather cushy spot after twenty years.
~A court member.

Responsibilities

Chief amoungst the responsibilities of the Regent is the day-to-day running of the kingdom. Due to the young age of the heirs at the time Dalreme dissolved and the precarious political situation the resultant kingdoms found themselves in, the Regents took unprecedented power in terms of military and governance. These has reneged somewhat in the intervening years as the kingdoms around them stabliized after the Night of Falling Crowns. Both kingdoms now have a small parliament to help determine governence and law-making, although the power of each varies depending on the year and the temperament of the regent.   The Regent is also duty-bound to ensure that the Heir is raised with all the training and education they will need to lead the kingdom once they take the throne. To Alfonso Blackwood, this is Richard Dalreme VII, and to Fandaniel Fitzroy this is Timothy Dalreme IX. Strangely, this duty does not seem to be as high on the priority list, as neither heir has been actively involved in the kingdom's affairs... at least to the Regent's knowledge.
