The Flock of Ignatius IV

Sixteen Lambs of Colored Coats   Sixteen Heirs of Azure and Gold,   Sixteen Curses Upon the heads   of those who would claim the Dead King's Throne
~An Ancient Spell of Destruction
The Flock of Ignatius IV isn't a single item, but rather a collection of sixteen near-identical wooden and wool Lambs. Created at the tail end of the Aegis Kingdom, these small collectibles vanished when the Captial was destroyed in a Calamity of fire and ash. While rumors of these legendary collectables have appeared throughout history, it is only recently that they have emerged for modern adventurers to discover.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

Each Lamb of the Flock is made of an ancient wood, believe to be a variant of Oak. The feet are rounded, and stick out at just enough of an angle to provide a sturdy base. Surrounding the core is a thick coat of wool, which has withstood the centuries with remarkable endurance. Supposedly each Lamb bore a different colored coat, but none have ever been seen together. The head is also rounded, and inlaid with two gems whose color matches its coat.

History

The History of the Flock is one tenuously recorded: Created as a gift to his children, the sixteen lambs of the flock were quickly lost after the Calamity that consumed the capital of the Ageis Kingdom, razing it to the ground. Historians hold, however, that most of the children and therefore, the Flock, were not in the city at the time of its destruction. There have been various claims as to the possession of the Flock made by rulers, tricksters, and con-men throughout history. One of the only verified ones was the possesssion of the Red Lamb, Which was handed down with care through generations of Von Falksmis. However, a bandit raid on the Falksmis Fortress soon rendered that one lost to the ages as well.   A recent expedition to the Iverson site unearthed a Lamb with white wool and a missing gem in its right eye. It currently resides at Poartlind's Museum of Art and History.

Significance

The Lambs were a gift from King Ignatius IV of the Ageis Kingdom to his sixteen children, on the 200th anniversary of the kingdom. Rumors and legends swirl about in ancient texts regarding their significance. One theory holds that the lambs held the key to who would inherit the throne. Others held that they were a ward against evil. Regardless, their significance was soon shattered as the children rebelled against both their father and each other, splitting off one by one to pursue their own destinies.   Wizard Artefacts found in the depths of the Iverson site hint that Quelar, the Vizar to King Ignatius, had cursed the Flock to seed discord amongst the heirs, although there is no substantial evidence as of yet.
