Vaxa-Bakrud Beta Station

Overview

The Vaxa-Bakrud Beta Station is one of 2 signal relays and fuel stations for ships and drones sent to Virid. unlike the Alpha Station, however, the Beta station is still in use, though for very different purposes.

Purpose / Function

Unlike the Alpha Station , beta is still in frequent use, though not for its original purpose. When the Kepek Commonwealth meet, the Bektep Space Station can become quite busy and congested. For safety reasons, if a queue of ships waiting to dock starts to form, some may be sent to the Beta station for refuelling if needed, or simply told to dock there until it is safer to approach Bektep. The station also still assists with relaying stellar weather warnings, as does the Alpha Station

Denizens

There aren't many permanent residents on the Beta Station, but the few who do live there are mostly the workers and their extended families, plus a few stragglers who were left behind when their ships left and just chose to stay.

Alterations

Both the Alpha and beta stations started out quite small, but when Beta started to be used as a secondary docking location, it was expanded on to accommodate the larger ships such as the Interstellar Colony Flagships. This mainly consisted of adding onto the station to make it bigger and increase its mass so the ships wouldn't knock the station out of orbit when docking, as well as facilities, to better accommodate tourists and other visitors.

Tourism

Interestingly, the beta station has become somewhat of a tourist destination. Interstellar Colony Flagships can be docked at the station for several days if Bektep is particularly congested, during which time ICF passengers are permitted to disembark and wander the station. To keep them entertained, Beta hosts a number of stores selling souvenirs and travel supplies, as well as other random goods, a holotheater, the Stellar Station Gardens and most famously of all, the Lost Stellar Zoo, plus much more. Of course, this has occasionally resulted in tourists being left behind when their ship is finally given clearance to dock at the Bektep Space Station, and so several hotels and a shuttle service are also available to return these forgotten passengers to either Bektep or their Interstellar Colony Flagship.
