The Blinding of Octolan

257AU

Nocturne disguises herself as a cupbearer in a bid to assassinate Octolan and instead only succeeds in blinding him, losing part of her hand and badly wounding her leg in the process.

Octolan has up to this point been a major issue for the Arbitri, the people have rallied around him as he travelled the land seeking to recruit for the army of the Aegis. While the Arbitri's armies outnumber the Aegis 1000 to 1, the Aegis' infantry are far better equipped and have the agency to make decisions and react if a situation changes for the worse.   Primarily, Nocturne's feud has been with Solus but she is convinced that by killing Octolan (Solus' close friend and confidant) he will be left vulnerable enough to destroy at last. Avarice provided her with an elixir to force Octolan into a deep slumber giving her opportunity to strike. Nocturne disguised herself as a cupbearer and gave Octolan the elixir, mixed with mead. The God was not put to sleep though, merely dulled. Not wanting to miss the opportunity, Nocturne struck. Even weakened, Octolan was still a formidible warrior and successfully pulled away from a killing blow, though was unable to save his vision as a poisoned dagger slashed his eyes. Striking wildly, his axe was able to connect with her hand and took a sizeable portion out of her leg, effectively maiming her. Neither God died, but both were permanently weakened.   Octolan continued to inspire troops, but was no longer able to fight. As Nocturne limped out into the darkness, it was said that lights of magnificent colours filled the night sky, as if the black of the sky itself had been wounded with radiance.
