Ambrosine Hayes
Hayes is still the youngest matron to head The Fiery Lock. She earned the title at 14. After the cult took her in, she dedicated her life to the arcane. With the cult in a sorry state, many who already had misgivings were further upset by someone so young leading them, Hays would truly make a name for herself until the civil war.
She spent much of her time learning the extent of her talents, using these abilities to continue Lauren’s crusade and assist slaves on the underground railroad. Lauren and Ambrosine shared a close relationship. Ambrosine’s naturally red hair, a form of albinism found in people of African descent called rufous albinism, led Lauren to believe The Red Maiden sent the girl herself. Hayes never believed this, but her natural talent often gave her moments of doubt.
During The American Civil War, Hayes actively used the cult to sabotage Confederate forces, even fighting on the field of battle. Several members of The Fiery Lock disguised themselves as men, enlisted, and used their powers in subtle ways to assist in the war effort. Hayes died in 1887 of old age. By this time, Hayes managed to create many safe houses for the movement to use throughout the U.S.
