Moon Rovers
Take a Joyride
Moon Rovers are a strange piece of technology from The Antediluvian Age. The Dreamers of The Data Moon, a cult in The Commonwealth of Alternative Religion , discovered them after being pointed at their location by The Data Moon, itself. It's not entirely clear what they are, but they are invaluable to the cult.
Moon Rovers are a form of technology that will likely never be seen again. They are living machines, mobile computers able to process petabytes of data in seconds. They stand at 6 feet with 2 slender, but unbelievably strong, mechanical legs. What serves as a body appears more like a cockpit, with a seat and several buttons and levers. There is a single eye located at the front of the body, centered in a bronze plate designed to protect the pilot.
The moon rovers are alive, able to move and act of their own accord. The machines wander the abandoned Oracle Security Building, scouting and protecting the servers where The Neon Garden is located. Normally friendly, they are not pleasant when hostile.
Brazen Guardians
While normally docile, trespassing on their territory or attacking the rovers will make them violent. The rovers are equipped with several weapons, and will make use of them efficiently. They are even known for calling in other rivers to take advantage of numbers.
Magnetic rails on the side of a rover can gather ammunition and send chunks of metal at high speeds toward their target. An extendable arm can reform into a blade or several sharp talons normally used to pick up objects. The arm can also reshap itself into sonthing similar to a circular saw.
When in great numbers, their main strategy involves coordination of attacks. They communicate with one another, running battle simulations and choosing the outcome with the highest probability of success. When piloted, however, control is given to the pilot.
What's In A Name?
The rovers are named as such due to their ability to run long distances. The cultists discovered them in a claustrophobic set of tunnels, the stone worn smooth due to the machines and their perrsistent running. When released, they stampeded out of the tunnel network and proceeded to run wildly, jumping as high as they possibly could. It's estimated the rivers can jump over 300 feet. The cultists stared in awe as they gracefully landed back on the ground, readying themselves for another jump. When their excitement subsided, the cultists used their gift of communicating with machines. They spoke to them, offered them a place in the world of The Web. The Landers were more than happy to agree. When they were cleaned and studied, the cultists discovered symbols etched into their bronze plating. These symbols looked to be constelations of stars, all centered around a spherical moon as seen from the surface of the earth.Remove these ads. Join the Worldbuilders Guild
