Task Force: Luther
Divided In Faith
When cults are involved, things get complicated. The Alexandrian University never got along with The 12 Cults. They maintained a task force specifically to opoose them. Task force: Luther was designed to hunt and eliminate problematic cults around the world, a job that ensured their name would live on in infamy.
When The Commonwealth of Alternative Religion was founded, The University was forced to repurpose the task force, or dissolve it entirely. They were no longer allowed to interfere with the affairs of cults under The Declarations of Faith and Practice. The unit went changed, rebranded by The University as a watchdog to ensure the declarations were obeyed by all parties involved.
Task force: Luther, named after Martin Luther, maintains diplomatic relations with all cults protected by The Declarations. They protect them from others, keep watch on their activities, and even assist in enforcing the declarations alongside The Commonwealth.
Culture
Those who join Luther tend to be reckless. It's needed for the job. Members of the task force tend to have a low life expectancy compared to others. This has led to their unit adopting a series of symbols attributed to death, and sacrifice. These symbols only make them more intimidating to others in The Web. The nature of their work leads them to a level of openness few experience. They openly discuss their emotions, often recount tales to others in an effort to make what they have seen more bearable. Cults can bring out the worst in people, allowing those who believe to commit the most heinous acts. Stumbling upon the cult in the middle of these acts can leave plenty of scars. Luther also keeps to itself. While the option of requesting help exists, they rarely use it. They make due, seeking to prove they don't need fancy toys to get the job done. This belief is so engrained in the task force, they refuse to update their weapons to more modern variants.Skills and Outfitting
Luther is equipped with standard weapons befitting their branch of the university. Like all Knights of The University, they are given protective combat armor, assault rifles, and requisitioned equipment dependant on the mission they are on. They are also given special tools designed to inhibit cult activities.
Every member is trained in at least 14 different rites of Exorcism, knowledgeable of the various gifts the cultits have at their disposal, and must train in various forms of Arcane Nillification to counter these gifts. Members also have access to even the most secretive of The University's archives.
Unlike other task forces among the University Knights, they have little in the way if vehicles, heavy ordinance, or support. Support, regardless of what form it takes, comes when petitioning other task forces for aid in a given mission.
