The Web: Chapter 1

Today I have published the first beta read version of The Scarlet Ashes. For those who were looking for it, it is finally here! Chapter 1: Again in The Scarlet Ashes

In other news, I have a new world im dabbling in on top of The Web if you'd like to check it out. The Void Between

Current Projects!

The following spoiler will show projects in progress for The Web! Forgive the Table, its being worked on XD

Project Name Description Progress
The Squire a short story following the exploits of a Grail knight and his newly acquired squire. Story will focus far more on how one becomes a Grail knight, their relationship to the web, and some of the more secretive elements of their organization. In Progress
The Scarlet Ashes My first novel is nearly finished. It needs a few more passes before im satisfied. The novel centers around Morrigan, The Children of The Fiery Lock, and The Red Maiden. 2nd Draft
Oxenfree I don't know why I've never written a short story about oxenfree before, but I finally decided to. The story will center around a version of Harry Graham finding his version of Michael Graham. It will illustrate how the organization operates as well as show The seekers of oxenfree in action.
Edits I want to utilize the manuscripts feature, and want to move the short stories already written into manuscripts after a nice edit. This includes vacancy, black betty, and The far side of Eden. I will also be putting up the first chapter of the Scarlet ashes in manuscripts to be read soon.
Ellestrom A short story that details Camilla Ellestrom's rise as the head of The University.
The Antagonist Cookbook Most monsters in The Web that i'll write about are original. You will never see a werewolf article. I'll mention traditional beasties, but they will never be featured. Like many things in The Web, if I use traditional elements, it will take some digging to find the inspiration. I want to delve into the antagonists of The Web. I want to have menagerie of critters to horrify and marvel my readers. It's coming. Be ready.

The Future of The Web's Lore

Moving forward, I want to focus on the fictional side of the web, but I also want to fill in some of the gaps in the lore. I have a lot of drafts that need to be finished and a lot of topics that could use some more depth, such as having individual cult articles for each of the 12 cults. Furthermore, I want to thank all those who take the time to stick with The Web and follow along. It keeps me going! Thank you so much.

Future Content

  • Details of COAR, Task Forces of The University, and more.
  • A detailed dive into spells and technology in the web.
  • More historical events similar to Project Aphid
  • More articles that depict what life is like in The Web
  • Monsters, beasties and critters! Oh my! (monster manual anyone?)
  • Organizations in different time periods and histories for more historical settings of play

Quality of Life

  • Make article Templates and bbcode templates to make the editing process smoother and more efficient
  • Utilize the Heroes feature for characters
  • Find a more efficient spellchecker to avoid problems when publishing articles.
  • Connecting articles further and editing current articles, including tags to make it easier to search for key terms.
  • Organize art into galleries, slowly begin removing art and planting my own/commissioned artwork

So about those videos...

I still plan on doing some videos, but (and i'm so not joking) my wife ran over the webcam on accident when pulling into the garage. Why it was on the floor, I do not know. XD so while I try to get that replaced, it is also postponed. The following are some general topics i'd love to do, and stem from the most common questions I get asked from WA, Twitter, Reddit, and Discord. Again, i'm not sure I'm even sure it would gain any traction, but it'd be nice to have the resource to give to those who ask instead of just spouting off and answering the same questions with FAR TOO MUCH detail.
  1. How I world build ("specifically")
  2. Sources of inspiration/knowledge (resources)
  3. In depth formatting and such on WA
  4. Handling Characters
  5. Handling Prose
  6. Tackling writer's block and other writing pitfalls
  7. Discussion of genres and specific topics
  8. Writing tips/tricks for speed
  9. Outlining/planning

I always love seeing how different writers set up their road maps/to-do lists/plans/blueprints/whateverit'snamed! I don't think I've seen any two people do the exact same format— they're like snowflakes! Never the same!
A quick bit of formatting feedback, I believe you've left a single (br) at the end of the "Future Content" section— making the right hand column that includes "CSS Edits" and "Quality of Life" offset by a single line. This could also be caused by a normal line break between the col elements.

Yeah I added information and forgot to go back. Lol my bad. This is true. everyone has a different way. Idk I like how clean it appears even though its all a jumbled mess lol

If you make vids, consider me subbed and the person that memes every second of every video. Good luck and remember to stay hydrated.

I am chronically dehydrated lol and thanks for saying so. I'm still on the fence about it so we shall see!

I love that you're into the flash fiction aspect of this and have outlines of novels ready to go. Keep Kyanite in mind as they also put out a quarterly journal of speculative fiction that you can submit to as well! Can't wait to see what you've got for World Ember, I'll only be watching this year as I am at my article limit. Good luck!

Article limit?! I didn't know there was a limit. Sorry to hear man. I've been wondering bout Kyanite press but havnt looked into it much. I'll consider it! Thanks!

I like how well done your road map is. You are way better organized than I am so you are a bit of an inspiration for me. And I would certainly be interested in those videos!

Woah, really! Like I'm flattered. You just made my day! It's kinda cool to know I inspired someone, even just a little. Thanks so much! Several have mentioned an interest in the videos so I just might do it. Again thanks like I really don't know what to say.

This is so exciting. I’ve got to catch up on this world w bit more as I’ve only seen the more recent stuff you’ve written. If you are in need of beta readers sometime before the end of August and school picks up, I’d love to help out.

May 25, 2020 22:53 by R. Dylon Elder

I'm excited as well! It's a crazy feeling to have a novel nearly done. I plan on having it ready before then. I'll keep everyone posted cause the help would be greatly appreciated!

Are you planning on updating this as you go? It's been a while, but I think it's not been changed at all since I last looked.

Oct 7, 2020 15:01 by R. Dylon Elder

I'm actually currently updating, lol. I'll have it up soon. Sorry it's been a while. Lots of real life stuff is messing with writing.

I'm so sorry you lost your job - that seems to be a too common thing nowadays. I've been homeschooling my little brother, so I get why writing has been a bit hard for you to come by too!   Sending you lots of support, and I'm really looking forward to anything you write. <3
