Kitta

Kitta is a palace siojhetioh, and far surpasses many nobly-born wielders in knowledge and power. In an environment where families use their magick-born children to prop up their court standing, she is an unwanted interloper that proves common-born mystery artists can upstage gentile ones. She constantly fights for her voice and takes the more difficult court jobs other siojhetioh refuse to consider, because when she succeeds, it emphasizes her power.   She had a childhood dream of becoming a powerful wielder, but leaving small-town Tura and traveling to the capital of Soline to better her career had never occurred to her until Rien and Shiobe left in pursuit of a better life. An outgoing and bright person in Tura, she withdrew from close relationships in an attempt to preserve her status in court. It did not take long before she discovered the social ropes binding her were far stronger and tighter than those she fought against in Tura, and her attempts to extricate herself from them have yet to succeed.

Early Years

Kitta is the only child of Vhellah, a Condi descendant living in Tura. She began schooling with the local Sheune religious sect as soon as she showed signs of being able to wield, and studied intently. She felt drawn to the healing arts, and the Sheune pushed her in that direction, since most strong shadowartists took the offensive magick path rather than the healing one. She had a well-rounded education, with the Sheune intent on producing a strong wielder. The sect also honed her empathy for the poor, and she healed peasant and townsperson alike, free-of-charge if they could not pay. She took better jobs when presented with them, which helped build her reputation around the area.   Kitta's beauty and charm attracted much attention, and most townspeople assumed she would leave Tura and move to Ginner or another larger community to ply her trade. They felt she had all the qualities to become a respected wielder, and some even thought she had the drive to become a siojhetioh for the Solin queen. She thought that ludicrous, until Rien and Shiobe moved to Iova. She finished her Sheune training and followed.

Iova

Kitta's first days in Iova nearly drove her back to Tura. She had difficulties even finding a position to support herself, and relied heavily on Shiobe for food and shelter. Rien had already begun his ascent in the palace guard, and once he caught Queen Tinera's attention, he spoke with her about Kitta. He promoted her heavily, and on his advice, the queen brought her into the palace siojhetioh ranks.   The ease in which Rien progressed did not translate to Kitta. She found herself under more scrutiny, the victim of more gossip and prejudice. She finally made a name and place for herself by winning a duel with the court darling, Lady Ganderelle. Most court families appreciated the victory, because it caused Ganderelle's reputation to suffer, which reflected back to her ambitious father. Court wielders became hesitant to face her in the shielded ring, because most refused to destroy their family's reputation in a similar manner.   She kept to her healing craft, and volunteered at local temples that served the poor. She took difficult court jobs and worked heavily with shadowwalkers to bring several powerful merchants to justice. Queen Tinera granted her the title of "Iova's Shining Star", which earned her jealousy and hate from her fellow siojhetioh, but also made her a power in her own right in court circles. Noblewomen with less magickal ability began to work with her, raising their court status.   When Rien broke with Shiobe, Kitta did not particularly wish to begin a relationship with him, but ended up doing so anyway. She had already become his secret lover, but had her eye on another shadowwalker. Rien refused to accept no, and proudly promoted their relationship in court. He raised her status further, but she felt no benefit came from it. She began to seriously consider her involvement with him, and the social implications of rejecting him. In the end, she remained with him to retain her court standing.

Skills

Kitta is a powerful and skilled wielder. She, as most knowledgeable healers, creates extraordinary shields. She employs a wide variety of offensive magicks that keep her opponents off-balance and guessing, rather than focusing on one or two favored spells that court siojhetioh could anticipate and prepare to defend against. She can easily heal physical injuries, and has some experience with common diseases such as colds and flu. While the taste is terrible, she can craft strong healing potions, especially for pain.   She has a magick-tinged laugh that attracts others. It is not a purposeful wielding, but she will use it to advantage when necessary.   She is powerful enough to create kick-portals.
