Northern Wastes

The Northern Wastes is a vast land of cold, snow and ice. Few humans live there due to the low temperatures, limited growing season, and lack of resources. Despite the harsh environment, several religious cults consider it home because the Earth Mother, Aseris, with the help of the Five Dragon Families, supposedly created the Wastes first. The dragons made their homes in this land, solidifying its importance to Seari.
First Light Island sits in the middle of the Great Lake of the First Dragons (which is also knows as the Great Northern Lake), and houses most of the cults. Condi lightartists worked the land into fertility, to produce enough foodstuffs to keep the population fed. It is the only Wastes place with a sizable and stable agricultural system.
The southernmost expanse is taiga, and the trees grow thick on the rolling hills. The taiga houses hardy, tall needleleafs and a few deciduous species. Wild ice berries and snow wheat abound. Lichens, mosses and short grasses can be found in open spaces. The forest is home to many large herbivores, the large predators that hunt them, weasels and rodents. Birds fly north and breed in the short summers.
The forest turns to tundra. No trees grow there, but lichens, mosses, low-lying cover plants and short grasses cover the ground. Bogs litter the landscape. Woody shrubs grow there, as well as along the coasts. The east and west coasts have a larger abundance of fish than those further north, but deep-sea fishes reside there.
North of the tundra are ice fields and glaciers.
