The Western Countries
The Western Countries contain the "start" of the Meygharkin Mountains. This mountain chain begins on the coast of Amberfar and continues in a southeastern arc to Jonnta. The peaks of the tallest mountains are white throughout the year, with alpine tundra below the snow line. The northern slopes do not receive much rain, and are dry, with some scrub and brush at lower levels and trees and grasses along rivers, lakes and streams, before turning into desert in eastern Eathtran and southern Tranquil. On the southern slopes, the alpine tundra turns into needleleaf forest, then mixed deciduous forests. South of the tallest western Meygharkin peaks are the Chak Mountains. They have lush mixed forests, mountain lakes, and the heads of many rivers. They are known for their varied birdlife and beautiful Spiced Air foliage. Several species of small mammal, amphibians and reptiles inhabit the lowest slopes, while wild deer, muskin, goats and sheep live further up. Several predators, large and small, live in the mountains. Below the Chak are deciduous forests that are home to a variety of wild and plant life. Frozen Air is somewhat milder, though they still receive heavy snows. These forests give way to wetlands in the south, the Amberjacen coast to the west, and grasslands to the southeast. The wetlands are particularly large and extremely biodiverse. They change from grassy to woody the closer they get to the coast, and give way to a large delta. The Amberjacen Sea has a spectacular variety of fish, and a particularly large cetacean, the whitish-blue sky whale, breeds during Strong Heat in the waters there.
