The World that Smoke Wrought

For aeons, the world was ruled by tyrannical wizard-kings. Blessed with arcane power by The Thinker, they used the secrets of magic as a barrier between the ruling elite and the lower classes. Rebellions came and went, but naught ever truly changed. The denizens of the lower world had no way to effectively fight back.   Then, one day, The Lord of Smoke bestowed upon the downtrodden their greatest weapon: the first firearm.   Finally armed with weapons that could best their magical masters, the people rose up and overthrew the long-established order, and, in doing so, overthrew the deities that had held sway in the heavens since the dawn of time. The people, and The Lord of Smoke, had risen up and taken power for themselves.   Many years have passed. The magic that united the world is gone, and industry has taken its place. Without the wonders of magical transportation, many places have become disconnected and have degenerated into lawlessness and chaos, into places where might once again makes right. But one central tenant holds fast throughout the land: thou shalt not suffer a wizard to live.   Welcome to Wresnet: the World that Smoke Wrought.
