The Lord of Smoke
Eons ago, the Lord of Smoke was punished for giving thought to the humanoid races. To control the damage caused by this boon, the Arcane Host bestowed great powers on any who would follow them, creating the first magic users and shaping the world into a series of ordered, tyrannical states.
The whispers of the Lord of Smoke, however, continued to escape its prison. Little by little, its influence reached the ears of those that would listen. One such person, a lowly dwarven smith named Mosur, woke from a dream with a design in her head. After hours of toil, she crafted the first gun and changed the world.
The act of using a firearm is a holy thing for the Lord of Smoke. As the weapons spread among the lower classes, and as the nobility that followed the Arcane Host was torn down by the very people they had oppressed, the Lord of Smoke gained sufficient power to break free of its prison and rebel against its captors. The Arcane Hose had no choice but to flee, ceding power over the world to the being they had thought locked away forever.
But the Lord of Smoke is not satisfied with simply holding power. It wishes to ensure that its place is never again threatened by its ancient enemies. And so it has empowered its followers to hunt down and destroy all who follow the old ways. Only then, when the old world of arcane magic has wholly been supplanted by the new world of industry and technology, will it finally be satisfied.
