Corruption

Warning: Article contains spoilers

A disease that the scholars from the Ravenmight Institute have labelled Corruption, this sickness occurs due to the spread of negative energy that is leaking into the valley from various places. While most places only have a small quantity of this energy, near-immeasurable, there are places where this negative influence is significantly stronger. Unfortunately, that includes places with essential resources, such as the Depths.   There are documents suggesting the old residents of the valley also faced the problem of this corruption, which certainly explains all the protective wards they created everywhere. Perhaps they lost the battle and retreated in the end. Given how they likely destroyed all materials that could have exposed their secrets, but not the wards, it is likely that they withdrew rather than become corrupted.   Unfortunately, there is no proper cure against the corruption. Healing magic only provides temporary relief, and even those evacuated to safer areas, still face a permanent negative progression of their condition. Even staying within protective wards does not resolve the problem. That said, magical reactions therein suggest that fresher wards might be of use. As such, the scholars and Scouts are desperately searching for any clue to be able to create new wards.   Symptom-wise, victims appear to be slowly wasting away. First, they slowly grow weaker physically. They also find themselves cold, requiring more and more heat to stay without shivering. Next, their mental abilities begin to weaken. Initially this just manifests as becoming slower to response and forgetful, but as time progresses they become more aggressive and panicky, making them a hazard for both themselves and others.   The scholars are still trying to figure out more, but for now, all should avoid spending too much time in the dangerous areas. Anyone found to show symptoms, should be brought to a safer place. We can only hope we can buy them enough time to find a cure.
