Dire Falcon

Falcons bred somehow with Hippogriffs. The size difference makes one wonder not just whether arcane means are involved, but how many. The nobles breeding them keep the true means a secret, something the Ravenmight Institute has respected. While they do have records at hand, they do not share these, as it would cause upset nobility.   Dire Falcons are mostly breed them with each other now, so magic is no longer needed there. Occasionally a noble will breed more Hippogriff blood into their line, which still works somehow. The other way around, breeding more Falcon blood in, does seem to require the aid of magic. Not that they ever do, most nobles just go towards the Hippogriff side, to the point that these creatures become more and more wild and dangerous.

Subjugation
There are various reasons why one might need to fight a Dire Falcon. First of, they are trained far too wild so might grow out of control, or escape and breed in the wild. Alternatively, well, a noble might need to be arrested, or a bandit might have stolen and trained one. Nets will allow for a non-lethal resolution if considerable.   These creatures will go for any exposed flesh, gouging out entire chunks. As such, helmets and armour are crucial. Keep eyes safe, as well as one's throat. A buckler gives the flexibility to ward off any attacks to the face, while bow attacks can provoke them into sweeping down.
Nature
Due to their Hippogriff blood, these creatures tend to be territorial. Furthermore, they oft are poorly trained by sadistical masters, causing them to have a vicious nature. One allowed to fly free, thus is a hazard, especially to servants.   While the creatures can be trained properly, even then they are still significantly aggressive. In comparison, War Eagles are far more docile and friendly. A Dire Falcon needs careful handling and may even turn on its owner. The main way to keep control is by training them to accept a specific snack, which is how their owners tend to keep themselves safe. What snack exactly, they must keep a secret.
