Feathered Rats

A strange rat species the size of dogs, which is entirely covered in feathers. Their backs are dull-coloured and let them blend in, while their underside is brightly coloured and used for showing off. The species is well-known for pranking both each other and other species. Despite pulling these pranks, people tend to quickly forgive them as they never mean to cause significant distress and are eager to make amends.   Normally they stay together in small groups, though at times a large group may stay together due to a desire for additional safety. It is at that point that they become dangerous, as a few individuals are easy to defeat yet an entire pack can be incredibly dangerous if provoked. People know better, but predators may end up torn apart.

Subjugation
These creatures are hardly a threat to any trained soldier, except when outnumbered. The hardest part is catching them, as they are incredibly quick. As such, measures to restrict their movement are advised, combined with bows if force is somehow required.   If a large group somehow has turned too aggressive to reason with, subjugation becomes much harder. They will attack any stragglers, so troops must stay in teams at all times. Unfortunately their speed makes large shields useless, so bucklers are the only useful defense.
Nature
A social species that usually lives in small same-gendered groups, these creatures tend to be shy and playful. They like pulling pranks on each other and on other species that they get along with, such as disguising food or swapping out stashes. This means that with people they may hide one's valuables or switch one's tools around.   Whenever a pranked victim ends up clearly distressed, they will quickly come over to make amends. They do this by both showing where the items are hidden, and by bringing small gifts afterwards.

Interesting creature. A dog-sized rat, interesting. Would love to see a picture of it!
