Oleserd Battleforged
First monarch of the valley of old, the tales about queen Oleserd are many even today, as those originating from the valley still speak her name with the utmost respect. While most stories were solely orally retold, causing a loss of information over time, scholars of the Ravenmight Institute have still managed to piece together some details.
Her origin is unknown, though it seems she was part of the people that first settled the valley. Her heroic role on that journey was what convinced the others to nominate her for the role of their ruler. Thus, at the age of 43, she became Queen Oleserd Battleforged.
Even as monarch, the queen did not hold back her weapons, leading her people into battle against various groups that sought control over the valley. It was under her lead that the Basin Fort and Mountain Fort were first constructed. Their presence helped secure the borders of the valley and keep its people safe.
At age 79, she chose to abdicate as leader, so that 'a young mind not tainted by our past' could lead the valley to new highs. Oleserd herself chose to keep putting her mind to work alongside her mighty arms, aiding in technological advancements. While no written record can support the claim, she is said to have been one of the first Rune Masters. Thus she earned her name 'Oleserd the Wise', by keeping the valley safe not just with weapons but with Ancient Runes.
Despite all the vagueness and contradictions, we can assume that she died at age 248, as multiple tales exist of her death during her birthday party. Some tales say that at the end of the party, she bade everyone goodbye before closing her eyes for good. Yet a more dramatic tale says that as she was asked to give a speech, she rose to her feet and held a fist to her chest. "We have stood", she said. All others rose to their feet and emotionally responded, "We still stand", yet Oleserd did not sit back down. For three counts did she stand, with a smile on her face, before she collapsed and passed away.
