Dorix IV

The volatile gas giant Dorix IV is the fourth planet in the Dorix system. It orbits adjacent to Dorix, a formerly-inhabited Sparnelli planet deep within Confederation space.   Sometime after the destruction of Dorix by the Hydell Order, Dorix IV was selected by the Space Defense Legion as the perfect site for a forward military base. The gas giant's frequent thunderstorms, combined with the unpredictable solar storms of the system's star since the Order's attack, have created a perfect storm of interference to shield the hidden base from Sparnelli sensors.

Climate

Dorix IV is a Class I gas giant, with water and ammonia clouds interspersed throughout its helium and hydrogen atmosphere. The planet's excessive atmospheric pressure allows the hydrogen to conduct electricity, further enhancing the activity and danger of its frequent thunderstorms.

Legion Outpost 279

The Legion's outpost within the planet requires frequent inspections of its heavily reinforced walls and airlocks to guarantee the safety of its residents. A scientifically-engineered layer of copper and tyrellium mesh surround the structure, with wires throughout to channel lightning away from vital machinery and living quarters.   The lighting also supplies the majority of the outpost's power, due to a clever use of capacitors, batteries, and lighting-powered generators.

You know what is silly but totally true - how we name things! Yes, Dorix IV inn the Dorix system next to the planet Dorix... it's so totally not just world building, but what we do in the real world! And yes - you got me - a refuge with it's own perils. So so real.
