Daerrim Giantmane

Daerrim Giantmane, ancestor to all dwarves, was born in the mountains. He met the great earth god Maphin and was left in awe. Because of this, Daerrim decided he would turn the mountains into the ultimate tribute to Maphin. He began digging and carving, finding precious metals and gemstones. He turned these into beautiful works of craftsmanship and unlocked some of the magic within them.
Eventually, Daerrim grew lonely. So he created his ultimate tribute to Maphin and pleaded for a companion. After 3 days, Maphin responded. He told Daerrim to create an image of the companion he wanted and Daerrim created a beautiful dwarf woman, with an emerald for one eye and amethyst for the other. Both gemstones were cut flawlessly and resembled eyes better than anything else could. This woman became Brillenia Stoutstone, a hardy dwarf woman.
She and Daerrim lived happily for a long time before Brillenia decided to head off in search of new mountains to conquer. Daerrim wished to stay near Maphin, and refused to leave. So, with a bittersweet goodbye, Brillenia set off across Lutar Minohn in search of more mountains, leaving Daerrim to raise their child. Once Brillenia arrived in her new home, she discovered she would soon have another child. Thus, the clans of Giantmane and Stoutstone were forged, and have had varying relationships since. Other dwarves have made names for themselves all across the world, giving rise to more dwarven clans, but these two are the largest and strongest, and most minor clans give allegiance to one or the other.
