Our Mutual Friend
Mikhail Solovev, also known as Our Mutual Friend Solovev, fought hard to earn his place as ruler of Kaldunsk, working his way up the ranks of the army until he reached the highest height he could, serving at the right hand of the previous Mutual Friend. And it was from this position that he could take power the only way it is done in Kaldunsk: eliminating those who stand above him. Since then, he has been a ruthless leader, subjugating and silencing all those who would speak out against him, including the rebellion in the Cinder Vale. When the Ashwood Rebellion decided they had had enough of giving in to demands and set out to rebel, Mikhail sent his daughter, Yelena Mikhailova, trained from birth to rule and to fight. She ruthlessly burned down their forests and was given the power to rule over them.
In his twilight years, Mikhail was ousted, as is the norm for anyone who rules over this violent country. He was replaced by a changeling, one of the most trusted members of his inner circle. This changeling then stole his identity, having learned his personality and mannerisms from being near him for so long, and now rules as Mikhail, with nobody being the wiser about his plot.
