Providence

"The woods do not care for you. Remember that."
These words stand above the eastern gate of Providence, giving words of warning to those who seek to explore the Wyrd, the godless forest of unimaginable horrors that Providence was established to colonize. Few who have journeyed into those woods have ever returned, and those that have returned will never be the same, their minds changed by the power of the forest. These people are usually confined to a certain part of Providence, to protect other people from them.
Providence was once devoutly religious, influenced by nearby indigenous groups to worship Lusanna, the Sun and a source of light and hope for those who need it. Over time, this belief was abandoned, and the church was left in the woods to rot (until recently, when a group of newcomers helped to save the church from the darkness that had taken hold of it). The only magic shunned by the town's residents is druidic magic, a magic they fear will be corrupted by the influence of the Wyrd.
