The Messengers
When you need a message delivered, there are only a few options: deliver it yourself, ensuring secrecy and privacy and making sure it gets where it needs to go; send someone else to deliver it, creating many risks; or go to the Messengers. Originally formed to carry messages for the Emperor and his advisors, The Messengers are now an international, non-political organization that relays messages across the world for anyone who needs their services. They have secured many international treaties to protect their couriers and provide them safe passage throughout the known world and equipped them with magical weapons and items for other possible threats.
Messengers are typically only hired for one-time deliveries, and as such their services are not used for trade between countries. Merchants and governments must hire their own guards for such undertakings.
With the fall of the Empire, the Messengers have begun hiring freelancers/ adventurers to help with their business needs. When doing so, they take a lot of care to ensure such adventurers will meet their professional standards. This includes an in-depth screening of potential hires to check for several things: affiliation with any organization, geopolitical or otherwise; a criminal background; and any other potential risks to the reputation of the Messengers. Because of these very rigid requirements, few freelancers are hired, but the Messengers are known to pay very well.
