The Nehebkau

The Nehebkau are a roaming conglomerate of snake people who travel the Dusveci Desert, stopping once a generation to build a new ritual site upon reaching an area that feels 'right'. The Nehebkau have come to revere humans, having originally been human (Though this reverence would be considered hostility by most humans). This tribe's origins come from the time of the Ohn's Bane epidemic. Desperate to save themselves from the Blight, many wealthy people took to a secluded location in the desert where they hired artificers, spellcasters, and anyone else with an intellectual mind to make them into something new. After many failed trials (which resulted in the death of the researcher who tried it), a Lusanite wizard named Neheb discovered a way to fuse the desperate humans with snakes, allowing them to resist the effects of Ohn's Blight. Over time, this ritual has given way to a new race of people. Neheb was the first to become a Nehebkau, much to the chagrin of those he aided. The ritual sites created by the Nehebkau serve as beacons for new humans to be transformed. Humans are always advised to stay away from the regions in which the Nehebkau roam in order to avoid being kidnapped (Though some go to them intentionally). The Nehebkau are also known to hide their wealth in such ritual sites, making them ideal places for a group of bandits or treasure seekers to plunder, assuming they have no problem risking their lives to do so.
