Opulence

Written by fordanglia

In the middle of the inland sea lies the high technological city of Opulence. Built on hexagonal floating modules, the settlement is built on several layers, both over- and underwater. To protect itself from the High, angry waves of the inland sea, a circle of floating barriers is built around the city, which is reducing the wave erosion on the city.   The city itself is independent of all other regions in Viridescence. Their remote location also gives them a fair military advantage, as all transport to and from the city has to happen either by air or by water. However, living out in the open sea poses complications such as access to food and fresh water. Opulence has algae farms of high productivity as well as a high production of fish and seafood. Regardless, the population would never be able to survive if not for the import of meat and vegetables from Thelereth.   High maintenance distilleries provide Opulence with fresh water for all it's citizens as well. A sustainable waste management system is also vital for the city to remain green. Opulence's main energy supply comes from solar panels and atomic energy.   Compared to the other regions, the population of Opulence is small, which makes them relatively easier to sustain. They are extremely negative towards immigration as well, and is by many considered the ‘snobby elite’. They are, however, more eligible to welcome guests of high education for research purposes.   Opulence sits on the most advanced technology in the world. Their military mostly consists of drones and AIs, and they spend millions and millions on research every year. Therefore, most technological breakthroughs also originate in Opulence.   Art is however not something the population of Opulence cares about. Here, everything needs to have a purpose and based in science. Their art is the Art of Innovation.
