Thelereth Ford Draft
In the free region of Thelereth, where the climate is temperate and water in abundance, the people live in a joined group of nomadic clans. There is no leader, no laws, and no one to care for you than the group you select to live with. Despite the lack of law or governance, the country itself has the lowest criminality rate in the whole of Viridescence. The reason for this is simple. Abundance of food and fresh water. Having vast ranges of food forests with rivers coming from Spinal Ridge, Thelereth is the garden of Viridescence.
The capital, Sungrove, is the seat of the largest Thelerethian Clan, and their Cheiftess is also the spokesperson and master trader on behalf of the whole region. The clan numbers, however, differ regularly, as each man is free to live wherever he likes and pledge allegiance to whichever clan he prefers. Even so, people usually prefer to stay in their chosen clan, as that gives them the opportunity to rise in rank.
Outside the capital, several other clans have taken control of some of the farms or watermill stations. As Thelereth itself has no higher governance, they are free clans, trading and making deals - which also causes both their internal and external relations to differ. There has been some incidences in history where there has been a disagreement about which clan should hold Sungrove. Then the heads gather in a closed meeting which can take months, trying to negotiate a deal which would benefit both clans. Fortunately, due to the Thelerethians valuing life and freedom over everything else, there has been limited bloodshed in this country over the centuries.
Thereleth exports food to both Opulence and Wynstonne, and it's their main and only income. The little money they have, is currently distributed evenly to everyone who have sold provisions they themselves have farmed. This can be all from large clans to one single man. Currently, the holders of Sungrove are in charge of this distribution, which was a requirement they agreed to when making the deal to keep the city.
However, Thelereth is not only occupied by high organized clans. You can also find smaller nomadic families, groups, and even loners, who wander around, living off the land. There is no such thing as trespassing in Thelereth, so people can set up camp wherever they please. Still, it is common courtesy not to disrupt the food production, and people are usually too intimidated to near the lands of the higher clans. In fact, the whole region is in harmony due to these unwritten codes of conduct.
Thereleth also contains a number of communal houses, powered by it's own water mills. Being the equivalent of free inns, people can stay for as long and short as they like. They are vital meeting points, which is centers of art and culture discussions. They also provide with social services such as health care. Here, every stranger is a friend.
