"Mind your manners, child...or you'll find a Shade at the foot of your bed, reaching out to seal your fate and make you one of their own!" — an old wives saying"
Every culture has tales of the dark and sinister. Things based on myths, folklore or events too horrible to remember in full--often used to share wisdom, remind...or to encourage obedience from wayward-hearted youth. Stories passed down by both written and spoken word, kept as guarded treasures by the elderly.
Those Who Speak Evil Tales
While every race has their own folklore and myths, not all encourage the speaking of darker tales. @Evolu as a culture frown upon speaking of the darkness of the world, their belief is that words have power and lending your attention to anything evil grants it unnecessary power.
Human and the
Kutollum races on the other hand, seem to embrace the darker tales of the world, using them for whatever useful instruction is required. Even the
Gentre tell tales of
Mahan and his evil designs to single out the naughty children who willfully refuse to obey their parents.
Humans: Beware the Shades
On the continent of Humär, humans tell many tales of fright and horror to encourage naughty children to behave. One such tale is of the Shades, also known as the Robes--or Dogs of Mahan. Creatures crafted from hate and blood used to animate enchanted cloth and fulfill the will of their master in darkness. These Shades are believed to move through the night, drawn to their prey by an insatiable desire for their flesh--which has been denied them. Children are reminded by their parents that there is nothing an adult can do to save the child, as Shades cannot be harmed by anything but weapons infused with the most powerful of magic.
So they better be good.
