Chapter 4: Encyclopedia

This was not the best time for the Clue Crackers, and most of it was my fault. Firstly, in my busyness, I accidentally put my classic hint eyes on the wrong post and did not properly read through it.
  TWICE.

Assuming what those posts said, I made crucial errors that caused the detectives to get off track. :{   In addition to this, I noticed too late that one of the lines I wrote was INCORRECT. Absolutely nothing I can do about that, though. LAUNCHING something is messy. There are always errors to be FOUND....
This wasn't my intent, but it segues nicely into this week's Chapter.
  The puzzle was
Ingredients:
  PROPENSITY STRING (3)
FIND FILTHY LABS (2)
BRONX-NOTED BOSS SOBS (3)
HIKE SNATCHERS (2)
BALCONY RACK (2)
SNAIL (1)
BORDERLINE WORN TYPES (3)
Omitting my error, the original goal of the puzzle was supposed to be unscrambling the nonsense phrases into names of "ingredients" for something. The numbers in parenthesis indicated how many words would be found in the end result. Here are the answers:
TOY PRINTING PRESS
FIFTY HANDBILLS *
BON-TON DRESS BOX
KITCHEN SHEARS *
BLACK CRAYON *
NAILS *
PRESIDENT LEROY BROWN
Shoutout to Berrybrook for guessing the ones with the stars beside them!
If you still don't know what any of this means, the answer to the hint was a clue towards a boy gathering these materials, sending out adverts, and creating a sign that said "No case too small, 25 cents per day plus expenses".
Still LOST on what he was doing? The youth was FOUNDING his own Detective Agency!

If you've never heard of Encyclopedia Brown, I'll give you a brief overview: Fifth-grader whose dad is the chief of police, Leroy is known to all in the small town of Idaville as "Encyclopedia" because he loves to read, learn, and solve problems. It is said he has a whole encyclopedia in his brain. Being smart is one of his knacks, so his mom suggested he become a detective when he grew up. Thinking about her words, he decided not to wait for adulthood. In classic lemonade-stand fashion, he went from being an unknown secretly helping his father solve crimes behind the scenes to making a name for himself by opening up a business that solved cases of all for just a quarter a day (plus expenses). Mostly his schoolmates and neighborhood kids solicited him for services, but he sometimes got other visitors as well.

Chapter 4: Encyclopedia

For this looser prompt, we head to the garage at 13 Rover Avenue where a ten-year-old kid FOUND out what he wanted to be and FOUNDED his own business. The said business also includes FINDING things for others sometimes. No matter how you go about this prompt, you can make it about one or more of your characters FINDING out something about themselves, FINDING something (for another person), or FOUNDING a business or movement.
Feel free to write your story in first, second, or third person, past, present, or even future tense. Adhering to the prompt however you see fit, please stay within the PG-13 realm, adding spoiler tags and trigger warnings where applicable.   Though stories are not officially being judged, please check out the Feedback Shuffle on Discord if you would like to get critique on your entries. And, for these purposes, I advise you keep your entries around 300 to 500 words. (1,000 words, at most). THESE ARE NOT HARD LIMITS.   Feel free to write in a Google doc, WorldAnvil article, WorldAnvil Forums post, or just in your character's bunkers on Discord. However you want to do it. When done, post the link below so that everyone can know you entered this Chapter.   God bless and much success!
