Foundation of the World of Wizard's Peak
Scope
Motivation
I'm bringing the world that I built as a child for D&D 1E, and ran through D&D 3.5, to the present.
Hopes
My kids are playing D&D now and I hope that the world lives after I'm gone.
Hook
There's a hole in the world that leads to a different plane or reality every day. New magic, new technology, and new organisms enter the world every day and that needs to be dealt with.
Theme
Genre
Magi-punk: A vanilla high fantasy world has adapted to planar incursions. It is entering the equivalent of the Revolutionary/Napoleonic era through the lens of the Filipino diaspora.
Feel
Political intrigue, cold war machinations, against a tapestry of innovation and inter-planar chaos.
Tone
The world fights chaos daily, but it's hopeful. Discworld/Steven's Universe vs Cthulu. Also a mix of Eberron and Avatar: the Last Airbender and Korra.
Character Agency
Heroes can absolutely change the world. They are free to change it for the better and for the worse. Their decisions on which alliance to work with or against will change everything.
Recurring Themes
- Organizations: The organizations that you ally with can give you the influence you need to change the world.
- Technology: Discovering and exploiting/using new technology/magic from different worlds.
- Passing of the Old Order:
- The Gods have withdrawn and the old nobility has lost the "divine right" to rule.
- The gods no longer whisper in the minds of their followers. The orcs and goblins and elves and dwarves are free to be whatever they want.
Drama
- Political Intrigue: The members of the Concordance for Survival vie for control of The Kirinal Pit while also defending the world from invaders.
- Weekly Interplanar Invasions!: The Kirinal Pit manifests a different plane every day of the week. It is somewhat controlled, but on Shatter (Monday), every week, anything can appear.
- Adventure and Opportunity: Young adventurers flock to the Pit to make their fortune. The chance to become a merchant lord or a glorious hero comes at dawn every day on the Pit.
- Age of Air and Rail: Skyships and rail have shrunk the world. Rich trade routes have opened up around the world ready to be exploited or defended.
- Bondservants Little better than slaves, bondservants serve ruthless nations and organizations. They work in horrible conditions for little pay in exchange for the promise of citizenship in the Kirinal Pit Neutral Zone.
Summer Camp 2020
Quick Overview
The D&D world that I began in middle school has grown up with me now that I'm a man in my 40's.
Theme
A magi-punk world entering the Revolutionary era through the lens of the Filipino diaspora.
Conflict
Cold War espionage and proxy conflict, direct war with terrestrial enemies will lead to the invasion/destruction of the world from extraplanar invasion.
I love the pit idea. It paves the way for a lot of exciting things to occur
