Chardine Tower

Historical Overview

Appointed Minors

The least significant of Anhara's noble houses, appointed minors are houses that exist for a very specific purpose. Be that purpose the control of a company, a reward for political aid, or to hold a particular castle, they are the most common noble houses. House Chardine was created after the conquest of Perryden by Cadan Lyonel to reward a loyal lieutenant and hold the crossroads at Cooper Road.
"The knightly lord rose at his rostrum, and spake flowery words of welcome. 'Hail good sirs and well met! Sit and rest before your noble quest!'" - Sir Lyonel and the Lion
To find a prominent Anharan crossroads without an appointed house to guard it and provide guest right to travelling knights and nobles would be exceedingly rare. To that purpose, Chardine Tower was constructed.

The Tower

Chardine Tower was constructed in the fashion of many crossroads towers in the Vinelands. Originally starting as an old stone tower, squat but on a prominent cliff, it eventually grew to facilitate the manorial features expected of a noble seat. In this case, the tower remained facing the road, and the home grew out behind it, with requisite stables.   Within the Chardine manor is a moderate banquet hall, on the northeast of which is residences for the family and guests. Outside the entrance to the banquet hall, which is centered along its long southwestern wall, is a yard ringed by a low, stone wall, for general activity such as mustering, returning from hunts, and so forth.   Just outside the home's yard is the Ravenwood, an old forest infrequently used by bandits. Here, the Chardines rooted out the last gasp of Perry defenders after the city fell.
