Arrow Mountain Range

The Arrow Mountain Range is a large mountain range on Laosina. It is the largest mountain range in the continent Etaes, and is the most famous mountain range on the planet, both planetarily and inter-planetarily.

Geography, Location & Climate

The mountain range is located on the northern coastline of Etaes, a continent that makes the Sezeris supercontinent. The mountain range reaches down to the centre of the continent, splitting through several major biomes and forms many river systems.

The Arrow Mountain Range is formed in an arrow shape, pointing towards the South Pole. It is an umbrella for two smaller mountain ranges; the North Arrow Mountain Range and the South Arrow Mountain Range. These two mountain ranges are situated on different tectonic plates, both pulling away from each other and causing magma to flow upwards, forming volcanoes and mountains.

The mountain peaks are all connected with small floating rocks and boulders, large enough to support a handful of laosinans at any one time. Some of the boulders are as large as buildings and occasionally lose their ability to float and tumble down the mountainside, causing great destruction. When these boulders reach the bottom of the mountains, they begin floating again. It is unknown what causes this phenomenon.

History

Named in 1627 by geologist and explorer Marl Utunua, the mountain range had been inhabited by indigenous tribes for thousands of years. The mountain range's incredible ecosystems left room for laosinans to fit in, so long as they didn't overstep their boundaries and start negatively affecting populations of other species.

It was only in 1653 that cartographers actually attempted to map out the Arrow Mountain Range. Thirty years of struggle climbing through mountains and valleys by a team of fifty scientists and the mountain range had finally been mapped in its entirety, including naming every individual mountain and giving it a scientific code.

Throughout history since, explorers have made it their mission to travel to the very centre of the mountain range, where the the Sever Supercontinent's largest and tallest mountain exists: Mount Hdawa.

Fauna, Flora & Fungi

The Arrow Mountain Range is rich in wildlife. The North Arrow Mountain Range tends to be fairly cold, whilst the South Arrow Mountain Range is much warmer. Both mountain ranges have cultivated vast ecosystems, with diverse fauna from a wide range of classes. The most abundant species, many of which are keystone species, come from the Aves class, as they are warm-blooded and can control their body temperatures.

The flora species in the Arrow Mountain Range are a little more scarce, however very much abundant. The sides of the mountains are lined with strips of magma moss, a type of false moss with complex root systems that bury into the mountains to extract magma. The majority of flora species are in the family Poaceae, and range from short grasses of varying colourations to thick bamboos that grow on plateaus between mountains.

There is very little fungi in the Arrow Mountain Range. Magmashrooms are a species that solely grow with magma moss, whose combined roots are known to even stop the flow of magma in small volcanoes and render them dormant.

Climbing Mount Hdawa

Thousands upon thousands of amateur explorers and hikers have attempted to reach Mount Hdawa, only giving up and turning back twenty minutes later. This famed journey starts at the very edge of the Arrow Mountain Range. There are five points located around the mountain range, where stations have been constructed, which are all equal distance from the peak of Mount Hdawa.

The mission is to trek from the station, hundreds of miles into the mountain range and up the mountain to its very peak, and touch the flag that was put up there when Marl Utunua reached the peak. Many people give up; since laosinans are not equipped for cold temperatures they tend to underestimate the temperatures and climates they'll experience on the hike.

So few people have made it to the peak that they have started leaving their signature on the 6x3 metre flag. Currently there are 45 signatures, six of which are repeated twice.

There has to be a Bow Valley somewhere in that mountain range.

I like that people who reach the summit of the middle mountain write their names on a flag. That's fun. :) Hope there's not as many bodies as there are on Everest. O_O   MAGMASHROOMS. FLOATY ROCKS. YAY.

There shouldn't be as many bodies, since laosinans head home before they get tired xD
