Misty Scaleshroom

Misty scaleshrooms are a large species of fungus found in the mushroom forests of Aekor. They release a large amount of mist from their scale flaps that fill the forests at night. They are renowned causers of travellers getting lost in forests at night, and thus developed quite a reputation.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Misty scaleshrooms range from 1 to 3 metres tall. They have a thick stem 60 - 100cm tall, a maroon colour, with a large conical shaped cap. The cap is covered with scales, leather flaps that lift upwards and releases mist. The cap is anywhere from 40 to 80cm tall. The gills are a pale yellow, there are up to 200 gills in the mushroom.

Genetics and Reproduction

All year round, spores are released from the scales. Because of the mushroom's size, the spores are visible, they are about 1cm by 1cm. They float along in the wind until they settle on the ground. Spores are released every 2 weeks, only a few at a time.

Growth Rate & Stages

The spores, once nestled in the ground, takes about 2 months to grow to their full height. It takes much longer to grow since they naturally are very big.

Ecology and Habitats

Misty scaleshrooms are common in the mushroom forests of northern central and eastern Aekor. They live in temperate climates, cannot survive in hot, cold or muggy areas. The spores grow best in dark areas, planting themselves under fallen leaves, sticks and moss.

Mist

Every night, these magical fungi release a mist that fills the forests. This mist is a light blue, and appears to be made of magical water droplets. The mist is released via the scales on the mushroom's cap, and is unique to this mushroom. Water droplets are absorbed during the day from rain or through the roots, and during night, when the temperature is colder, the water is released as a blue mist through the scales.
