Turd Fig Tree
Turd fig trees are a subspecies of fig tree from Zechichi. They are best known for their pungent odor, which their name derives from. They make up more than half of the diet of paradise kinkajous, and due to habitat loss they are both on the decline.
Turd figs are tear shaped, a dark brown in colour, with orange fleshy insides. They can be eaten raw or cooked, but only when ripe, which is also when they release their odor. The figs are a common staple amongst rainforest-inhabiting peoples, as they are fast-growing and provide great nutrients.
