Youth Rights Day
Youth Rights Day takes place on 43rd Amribar in Hanoan, a country on the west coast of Trecath. Youth Rights Day aims to celebrate the giving of children rights, acknowledging that they are no longer objects but actual people.
History
Pre 1700s, children in Hanoan had no rights whatsoever. They were the legal property of their parent(s) and were treated like a vase, or a table. They were not seen as real people until their 20th birthday, and so they were not allowed rights. This changed in the year 1700 when a man named Gredgo Oncin had a view that children should be seen as people. They were not adults, but should be allowed rights, allowed to make decisions on their own despite their age, as he saw it as a way to grow. At the time Hanoan as a whole was walled off from other countries and people weren't allowed communication between other countries, so children there didn't know that how they were treated was unethical, it was the norm for then and had been for generations.
Gredgo Oncin made a formal complaint to the head government of the country, whom at the time was ruled by Sheirl Norrin, a remorseless woman who had a hidden hatred for children. Taking over the seat of power from her mother Midera Norrin, she kept the strict laws that were put in place for children all over the country, even magnifying them so children weren't allowed to voice their opinions. Without a doubt Sheirl quickly denied these complaints to give children rights, but he didn't stop there. Since Sheirl was in power parents had realised the wrongness of the laws. They banded together to form the Youth Protection Association, or the YPA. The YPA had over 500 members that stormed the capital of Hanoan, Opricia, where Sheirl lived.
The YPA made a series of well thought out arguments, with evidence to back up their claims. Through 7 weeks of vicious trials that put Sheirl through the wringer, she decided to lift the laws on children and re-write them with the guidance of Gredgo Oncin. The laws were officially altered on the 43rd of Amribar, 1700.
The very next year, on the same date as the laws were changed, Gredgo Oncin informally announced the Youth Rights Day. The day aimed to celebrate children, letting them experience for a full day what life would have been like for them if those laws didn't exist, despite them already being able to experience it now that the laws have changed.
Execution
The Youth Rights Day is an entire day showered with love and affection to children from their parents. Most parents like to cook their children large breakfasts that they would never get on a normal day, and parents and relatives buy the children presents, wrapping them in wrapping paper and letting the youths open them after breakfast. Most children then spend the entire day off school (if it is a weekday), doing their favourite activities, which for most is playing the outside game "Tag". More often than not do all the children living in the same block of houses all play in the streets together, as out of respect do most people refuse to drive, letting children have more area to play during the day. At about 5 O' Clock, do the children arrive at their home and enter the house to enjoy a feast, which varies between household. Children are then allowed to do whatever they want and go to sleep whenever they like, however it is advised they get enough sleep to help them the next day as it could be a school day.
Components and tools
Parents often buy their children presents on Youth Rights Day. These presents can be anything from a toy vehicle or toy animal, to a puzzle, anything that pertains to the child's hobbies. The presents are wrapped in a wrapping paper to disguise what is inside and what the present is.
Parents also cook the children several large meals throughout the day, which mostly takes place at dawn and dusk. At dawn is a large breakfast, parents often cook a variety of foods and have them displayed on the table so you can pick whatever foods you want and arrange it on your plate how you like. Leftovers are kept in storage and then eaten at a later date.
The dusk meal is even larger. The dusk meal always has a main centerpiece meal that is made to look incredibly fancy and bigger than the rest of the foods. Often parents like to make soup as it is quick, easy, and it tastes delicious. Around the table will be other foods, fried petals, assortments of salted nuts, potato salads, egg salads, and many more.
