Hedwig Saphire- Seward (a.k.a. Kit / Cyan Sapphire / Cyan Asteroid / The Comet)
History
From sidekick to full-fledged hero, Hedwig Seward’s life is as varied as it gets. Born to a human father and half atlantean mother, her life was normal enough. With her mother leaving for Atlas when she was a baby, Hedwig was raised by her father until a terrible accident at the beach where he was swept away by the waves and drowned. She grew up in the Victory City orphanage system with a fear of water and an even bigger fear of attachment. At 17 she was found using her powers by Asteroid and he adopted her to help develop her talents and use them for good as Cyan Sapphire. While standoffish initially, she warms up to Ingram and sees him as a friend and father figure. At 23 she marries Ben Saphire, retires from hero work and prepares to be a mother to twins. On the same day as their birth, Asteroid is killed in battle. Stricken by grief and blinded by rage, she takes the exo-suit and becomes Cyan Asteroid. The next few months mark her brutal war on crime using both her powers and the late Asteroid’s. She realizes the error of her ways and grants the moniker of Asteroid II to the original’s nephew, herself becoming The Comet; the student becomes the teacher. She slowly realized over the next few years that she was not aging like those around her. As she still appeared as a young adult when her children were having children, she attributed this to her Atlantean lineage. Outliving her husband and those around her, she decided to devote herself to her family and helping raise her grandchildren and their children. Having lived well over one hundred years, Hedwig is one of the strongest heroes around on experience alone.
Powers
Hydrokinesis
Hedwig can control water with her mind. She can detect water around her even when it is out of sight due to humidity concentration.
Atlantean physiology
Due to being part Atlantean, Hedwig is granted abilities and powers related to water and surviving within.
Gills
She has six gills located on her chest between her fifth and seventh ribs (3 on each side). These close outside of water and become virtually invisible.
Increased durability
She is able to survive at the bottom of the sea. As a result, her skin density is altered depending on depth. With training she can alter her density on command, effectively becoming bulletproof.
Longevity
Atlanteans live much longer than humans. As a result, Hedwig’s lifespan is well over the average human’s.
Underwater vision
She is able to see in the darkness of the sea. This ability is only activated underwater, so she sees normal on land.
Increased flexibility
She is naturally flexible. With some stretching, she is comparable to a contortionist. Using this can keep her from being easily restrained.
Underwater power boost
She is much stronger when in water thanks to all these powers.
Costume
Cyan Sapphire's costume consists of a sleek, blue leotard that fits her form snugly, providing both flexibility and support for her movements. The leotard is a deep, vibrant blue, reminiscent of the ocean.
