The Unlicensed Magician by Kelly Barhill (And any other books by Kelly Barhill), Beyonders (the trilogy) by Brandon Mull, and the Vega Jane series by David Baldacci. And A Face Like Glass by Frances Hardinge is pretty amazing as well. Roshani Chokshi and Rick Riordan are both good authors, but no one shall ever surpass Kelly Barhill.
