You evoke a fiery weapon in your free hand, similar in size and shape to a spear, which lasts for the duration. If you let go of the spear, it disappears, but you can evoke the spear again as a bonus action.
You can use your action to make a melee spell attack with the spear. On a hit, the target takes 3d6 fire damage. The scorching spear sheds bright light in a 10-foot radius and dim light for an additional 10 feet.
You can also hurl the spear, although doing so ends the spell. When you cast this spell, or as an action on a later turn, you make a ranged spell attack at a creature within 60 feet of you. On a hit, the target takes 3d6 fire damage on a failed save, or half as much on a successful one.
