Change Shape. As an action, you can switch between your true fox form, a humanoid form which you gained at birth, or a combination of the two that resembles your humanoid form with a fox tail(s) and ears. Your statistics, other than your size, are the same in each form. Any equipment you are wearing or carrying transforms with you. You can also communicate simple ideas with foxes using sound and gestures. While you are in your fox form, you can cast spells provided by your Foxfire feature.   Creature Type. You are a Fey.   Darkvision. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were in dim light. You discern colors in that darkness only as shades of gray.   Fey Ancestry. You have advantage on saving throws you make to avoid or end the charmed condition on yourself.   Foxfire. You can cast the produce flame cantrip with this trait. Starting at 3rd level, you can cast the faerie fire spell with this trait. Starting at 5th level, you can also cast the major image spell with it. Once you cast any of these spells with this trait, you can't cast that spell with it again until you finish a long rest. You can also cast these spells using any spell slots you have of the appropriate level. Intelligence, Wisdom, or Charisma is your spellcasting ability for these spells when you cast them with this trait (choose when you select this race).   Master of Disguise. You gain proficiency in the Deception skill.
Kitsune are natural born adventurers, often gifted with a curiosity that leads them towards a life of exploration and excitement. They are also born with the ability to transform into a humanoid form to blend in with the mortals they have a reputation for deceiving. Their age is indicated by their tails, with a new tail growing to join their others every century. Many ancient stories tell that the more tails a kitsune has, the more powerful it is; while this is often technically true, it is a case of correlation not necessarily equating causation. The tails themselves do not necessarily indicate a kitsune's power, but a kitsune who has lived long enough to grow so many tails has generally made themselves quite powerful in order to survive.
