A phalanx of flaming wisps burst forth from your body and linger in the air around you. When you cast the spell, creatures of your choice within 10 feet of you must make a Dexterity saving throw. On a failure, a target takes 1d8 fire damage. For the duration of the spell, the flames guard you and your allies. Once per turn, when a creature hits a melee attack against you or one of your allies within 5 feet of you, the attacker takes 1d8 fire damage.

At higher levels: When you cast this spell using a spell slot of 3rd level or higher, the initial damage, and damage when a creature hits an attack, increases by 1d8 for each slot level above 2nd.
