(Shortest Version of Story): When a gods-touched con artist gains the power to see the future, she must learn to believe in herself and the gods in order to save her home from destruction.
(Jacket Copy Draft): Gods and magic make for a nice story; consequently, only the gullible and weak believe in such foolishness and Daezin is no fool.
Daezin Amarantin lost everything to an expanding empire and a brother's betrayal and superstition. Since then, Daezin survives by her wits and through taking advantage of others' gullibility. In short, she's a con artist, and she believes in no one and nothing, and that's the way she likes it.
However, the gods and magic are returning to Kadegan and Daezin is gods-touched. An accidental encounter with a mysterious artifact activates powers of foresight, visions of a terrible future haunt her dreams. But Daezin refuses to believe in magic. Because if she believes in magic, she has to believe her brother was right in betraying her.
When her past comes looking for her and her only confidant becomes collateral damage to a zealot, Daezin is going to have to figure out how to use her new powers, trust herself, and convince others to believe in her visions, or she will lose her home and family. Again.
And Daezin isn't likely to survive such a loss a second time.
Note: This story is definitely a work in progress. I am trying to get out of my own way and just finish a novel length manuscript... finally. Comments on what you like or hope to see are welcome. If there is anything that makes you want to quit reading, I would love to hear that as well. Thank you for your support.
