Sword and Bones Report

General Summary

The heroes of Phandalin faced Azarzhel, the Storm of Swords in a cavern beneath Tanamere's tomb.   It's not clear how or why the dragon has risen in undeath, or how its lair is linked magically to the tomb of the beast's slayer, or why Tanamere's spirit spoke of betrayal. These questions would need to wait for another time, for now the group were fighting for their lives.   It was a titanic struggle. The glowing blade Stormsbane would not consent to be wielded by one who had not proved themselves worthy, as Rollo found out to his cost. Cheris managed to wield it, albeit clumsily, and rallied the group from the back of her phantom steed.  The battle was closely fought, with almost all the heroes brought near death by the mighty dracolich. Eventually Azarzhel fell, brought low by blade and spell directed at his current form and the mouldering bones littering the cavern.  In a final acto of malice, he broke the wall of the cave with his breath and triggered a collapse and a flood at the same time.   Reassuring themselves that their foe was indeed dead, the heroes fled and found themselves in the icy waters of the Sea of Swords. They struggled to shore, scaling a cliff with aid from Lorastine, still borne aloft by her flight spell.  Lorastine watched aghast as in the distance she spied their old foe Cryovain tearing apart a merchant schooner and making off with its cargo. The white dragon had become bolder and was hunting further afield. Huddling around a campfire masked by Amaruq's druid magic, the heroes collapsed in exhaustion.
