Session 3: Greenest Fights Back - Part 1
General Summary
On the party's return to the keep they managed to rest for a short while to recover their strength and patch up wounds. Once rested Khorg and The Giant headed back up to the battlements, Governor Nighthill once again stood there, a strong, stable figure amongst a sea of chaos. He looked down over his troubled town with a sad but determined expression. A smile broke through Governor Nighthill's hard expression as he turned to the companions, congratulating them warmly on the Chauntea rescue. News had clearly leaked out about the adventurers latest escapade as several guards clapped them warmly on the back as they passed and greeted them as friends. Nighthill again mentioned the need to save the mill before the raiders destroyed it. As Khorg and The Giant were discussing the matter with him a cloaked figure approached. Pulling back the hood of the cloak she revealed an unfamiliar face, two curled horns emerged from the top of her head and her skin was a black, features that marked her out as a Tiefling. Governor Nighthill was lost for words temporarily and the Tiefling woman spoke first, offering her help in efforts to save the town with a determined, proud voice. It seemed clear from her demeanour and the intense glow of her piercing blue eyes that she had no love for the cultists. Once prepared and rested the party reluctantly headed down the old tunnel once more and out into the driving rain. Khorg made a quick check as they exited the tunnel but no one was in site, if anything, the rain helped to hide the party against unfriendly eyes. It was not long however, before the muffled sound of voices were heard through the drizzle. The Giant crept forward to investigate and saw three cultist moving noisily along the stream edge boasting loudly about their recent conquests. Once again he managed to fool the cultists into believing he was one of them, the Firbolg's strange ability to assume the form of another crucial in several encounters. Unfortunately as the cultists moved in the direction of the rest of the party, the Tiefling woman slipped into the shadows but Picasso shouted out foolishly and the cultists saw him. It was a combat the companions might have avoided but they dispatched the cultists easily, hid the bodies under bushes and moved on their way grimly towards the mill. The party crept along a dark tree line avoiding the stream bank and encountered several terrified townsfolk who had fled their nearby homes. The Giant directed them to the old tunnel and the party continued on their way. As they approached a bridge over the growing stream and the rains eased, those party member who could see well in the dark spotted a small figure watching from the trees 50 feet away. A kobold sentry had been posted there and the cowardly creature fled as soon as the party saw it but a very good shot from Khorg's artifice-enhanced crossbow stopped it in its tracks.
The party made their way towards a small group of houses. All were abandoned and had been ransacked, some were still smouldering but the heavy rain had damped down most fires in the area. There was no sign of cultists or kobolds here but as the party moved towards the mill they saw many small figures dancing about in the moonlight in front of the mill and waving burning torches, the party had arrived at their appointed location....
