Session 4: Greenest Fights Back: Part 2
General Summary
As the party approached the mill they saw many small figures dancing around with flaming torches, attempting to burn the mill down. Though it was dark the torch light fell up the faces of the raiders marking them out as the scaly, reptilian kobolds which the party had fought many times recently, gleefully causing havoc once again for the unfortunate town of Greenest. As the party watched the kobolds they heard a rustle in the bush behind them and expecting more attackers they turned around with weapons drawn! From out of the darkness emerged Zanziphar, who had left the keep before the characters set out for the temple of Chauntea several hours before. He had sneaked out into the town on a personal matter and had returned from his dangerous dalliance with some news...In his investigations he had discovered that the leader of the raiders was called Frulam Mondath. Mondath was somewhere in the town directing the attack. The party welcomed him back and returned their attention to the mill. Creeping forward slowly it seemed they had not been noticed by the kobolds, who appeared to be far more interested in leaping about and attempting to set fire to the mill. A brief skirmish with the kobolds involving Picasso drawing the fire of slings as the party attacked, resulted in many dead kobolds. Zanziphar was hit in the shoulder and the Saucerer took a glancing blow to the temple from a sling stone but the party were quickly victorious. It became clear that for all their noise and excitement the kobolds had had little success in setting fire to the barn, in fact it was almost as if they had not been trying very hard.... The party stealthily approached the barn which appeared deserted. However, there was a little faint light coming from some of the ground-floor windows. The Giant and Picasso moved up the right side of the barn, Zanziphar going left and the Saucerer and Zhorg peered in through the closest windows. The Giant moved up to a door on the right side and cautiously entered, seeing and hearing nothing out of the ordinary. Unfortunately he had failed to notice the shadows in the loft at the back of the barn and was set upon by several human figures jumping down on him. Spears were thrown but mostly failed to hit their mark and The Giant, in his human disguise, found himself surrounded! Picasso was a little slow to react but hurried to aid his companion. Meanwhile Zanziphar, far away from the action, knew nothing of it and found his way through the darkness to another door on the left of the barn. He crept in, finding himself in a separate room and heard the scuffle in the next room. He moved across towards the door separating the two areas but became aware of slight noises from above him and moved to investigate just in time to see attackers leaping down. This time the spears found their mark flooring him immediately, any chance of him fighting back ended cruelly by a cultist blade. The Saucerer and Khorg were also now aware of the fracas in the room adjacent to the one they were investigating and rushed to help, climbing in through open windows. The Saucerer, thinking her companions might be in trouble next door, conjured a loud noise to create some confusion and doubt in the minds of the ambushers. Next door, The Giant enraged by the blows of spears and scimitars raining down upon or near him felt his blood boiling and his form began to alter much to the chagrin of his attackers. The cultists hesitated in their attack, wondering what manner of unholy power could cause such a transformation and before them, where The Giant had stood only seconds before, crouched a huge wolf, it's jaws slavering and with a hungry look upon it's vulpine features. The Giant in his wolf form immediately tore the throat out of the nearest cultist before he could raise his weapon to defend himself. Picasso ran in to see a huge wolf fending off cultists and was confused by the scene before him, however a sword aimed his way soon cleared his mind and he fought back fiercely. With Khorg and the Saucerer aiding them the party members quickly saw off the remaining cultist and got to Zanziphar just in time to save him bleeding out. Catching their breath and binding their wounds the party waited for the relief force to arrive and soon afterwards were on their way back to the keep through the old tunnel. However, as they moved through the tunnel they heard ominous sounds from ahead....
